Do you want to escape the cold weather? Are you fed up with disappointing summers at home? Look no further than the sun-kissed island of Tenerife. Guaranteed to give you a suntan to be proud of, this magical miniature continent has plenty of lovely beaches to keep even the most discerning of sun seekers happy.

What else can you find on an island that has almost 365 days of sunshine and mild temperatures, besides the museums and the "normal" places of interest? The beaches of course! Tenerife has some of the highest quality, several of which have soft golden or volcanic sand with warm tranquil waters ideal for swimming. These are mainly around the major tourist resorts. Most have good access, meet stringent European standards of cleanliness, have shower facilities, sunbeds, sunshades and the majority offer water sports, including jet-skiing and wind-surfing as well as exciting boat trips.

Spain-Tenerife holds the key to your dream holiday. We have the local knowledge to direct you to the best seaside resorts. Here are some you will find on your way around the island.

Starting on the southern coast, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos are two well-known holiday hotspots with gorgeous stretches of sand and easy access into the ocean. Both are hives of activity, offering a wealth of sports and leisure pastimes. Also in the south is the beautiful El Médano , the home of the kite-surfing World Championship. Bohemian and laid-back, this is a very pretty coastal resort with several sandy coves with fantastic waves which attract water sport enthusiasts from all over the world. The pristine beaches of Costa Adeje are among the best on the island, helping this area earn the reputation as being an affluent up-market resort guaranteed to impress. Playa del Duque is sophisticated, well-kept, has beautiful clear blue waters and immaculate golden sand. These are just some of the reasons it has been given Blue Flag status, a prestigious accolade for beaches that really are a cut above the rest in terms of water quality, cleanliness and providing an eco-friendly environment. Without doubt the most luxurious place to stay in this resort is the palatial 5-star Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque Resort which has direct access to the beach. This has the prestigious status of being a Gran Lujo, meaning it is of the highest calibre possible.

Also flying the Blue Flag is Playa Fañabé, on Costa Adeje…another perfect beach! Watch the sun reflect off the gorgeous turquoise ocean while you relax in the sunshine or take part in the wide range of activities on offer. The stunning oceanfront Hotel Jardines de Nivaria is a five-star establishment with a private lift taking guests straight to the beach and the 4-star Hotel Colón Guanahaní is also a short stroll from the golden sand. In the nearby resort of Playa Paraiso, a complimentary shuttle bus takes guests staying at the Roca Nivaria Gran Hotel to Playa Fañabé. Playa del Bobo is a tranquil sandy beach and just minutes away from the elegant, 4-star Hotel Jardín Tropical.

It is not just in the south that you can find fantastic beaches… they are all over Tenerife. Moving northwards, the wonderful Playa de Las Teresitas, in the Santa Cruz area, is a firm favourite. El Bollullo in La Orotava is one of the most tranquil beaches on the island. It has a long expanse of dark-coloured sand as has the sheltered bay of Playa San Marcos in Icod de Los Vinos. Playa Jardín, in Puerto de la Cruz, is surrounded by colourful gardens with palm trees and the contemporary Lago Martianez, which was designed by the celebrated Canarian-born artist and architect César Manrique, is a wonderful water park. A fantastic attraction, it features several swimming pools, cascading waterfalls and lush sub-tropical gardens. The luxurious Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden is a secluded retreat in the countryside, 10 minutes from Playa Jardín by car. Also a short journey from this beach is the 4-star stylish Hotel Sol Costa Atlantis Tenerife which has stunning views of Tenerife’s volcano Mount Teide
